Storytelling. self-love. the writing process.
As a public speaker, I offer both talks and workshops on storytelling, self-love, and the writing & publishing process. I also offer readings from my book My Beautiful Black Hair: 101 Natural Hair Stories from the Sisterhood. Other topics are available upon request.
I’ve spoken at over fifty events as a keynote speaker, lecturer, panelist, guest speaker, and guest author. While most of my talks have been at colleges — Ivy Leagues, liberal arts colleges, state schools, and community colleges — I’ve also spoken to K-12 audiences, as well as at corporate events and conferences.
What People Are Saying
“St. Clair was amazing! The presentation was fantastic — engaging, informative and fun. The students loved every second of it! It was truly magical.”
— Organizer, The Rhode Island Festival of Children's Books and Authors
“We were lucky to host St. Clair as part of our annual Writers' Day at National Cathedral School. She used videos and anecdotes to bring to life the story of her writing process, keeping an audience of 50-60 high school students engaged for an hour. She answered their questions with sincerity and enthusiasm. They all had wonderful things to say about her afterwards, and I agree: St. Clair is a dynamic and informative speaker!”
— Educator, National Cathedral School (Washington, DC)
“The students had such a wonderful time with St. Clair. In fact, the event won the Expanding Perspectives Award: ‘This award celebrates an initiative, program, or series sponsored by a student organization or group that successfully fosters education, discussion and activity around diversity and inclusion at Widener University.’”
— Educator, Widener University
“It was truly an honor and privilege to have St. Clair at WKU. The students had such a wonderful time. Discussion around her talk continued in class the following day. She was truly inspiring for so many.”
— Educator, Western Kentucky University
“We are so grateful for St. Clair’s time, energy, and wisdom! Her message had a huge impact, which I am certain will lead to additional discussions, programming and important change in the future.”
— Educator, The Maret School (Washington, DC)
“It was so heartwarming to have St. Clair with us, and I hope we can have her at Bennington again in the near future.”
— Administrator, Bennington College
“St. Clair’s presentation of ideas was captivating and felt particularly engaging from start to finish. I appreciated her connection from specific details in her story to broader themes and advice on how to tell stories in our own paths and fields. After attending her presentation, I grew a greater appreciation for self-narratives, especially when she discussed how sharing a personal story can empower both the narrator as well as the audience who might need to hear it. This presentation helped to shift my mentality on holding secrecy on my story, especially since it will also empower me to continue my healing. I feel personally inspired and motivated.”
— Student, Point Park University
“I am so happy that we were able to connect this year! Even months later, people have come up to me to say that they thoroughly enjoyed St. Clair’s presentation and have voiced a desire to learn more social justice.”
— Educator, Texas Wesleyan University
“Wonderful presentation! Students are still talking about the event. They're noting that it was their favorite thus far.”
— Educator, Kennesaw State University
“It was such a pleasure to meet St. Clair and spend some time learning more about her work. I’ve received amazing feedback on her presentations. People enjoyed her message, and they especially appreciated her humble demeanor. She showed her vulnerability; this was the amazing part.”
— Educator, Montana State University
“It was a pleasure to have St. Clair join us. One of my students let me know that she felt heard and safe in the space. I felt the discussion was needed for those who attended. We could have talked for hours afterwards. Thank you so much for sharing your writing with us, St. Clair!”
— Educator, U-Mich Flint
“The live reading was one of the highlights of the term, and the children really enjoyed reading St. Clair’s book. Everything St. Clair does means so much to me and all the Dartmouth Alliance for Children of Color (DACC) families.”
— Student Leader, Dartmouth College
“Of all the events featured in this year’s Diversity Week, St. Clair’s was the one I enjoyed the most. I hope we have the opportunity to work together in the future!”
